5 out of 5 stars Professional power cheaper than big box stores   June 24, 2010

I had been looking at string trimmers for a couple of months. My old craftsman (circa 1988) finally gave up the ghost. But everything I saw in the big box stores (the blue one and the orange one) looked cheap and flimsy in my price range (less than $200). So I decided to look around online and see what was available even if I needed to pay a bit extra for quality. I had heard about Tanaka but never considered it because my only contact was with a commercial lawn service that used their equipment. So I was looking mainly at Toro and Stihl hoping for a deal out there. A search on Amazon led to this Tanaka unit. There was very little information on the internet about it since it's brand new.

So how does it perform? Unbelievable! Power, power, power. The heavy brush on the lower part of our lot that I had been avoiding because of the sickly Craftsman met it's match and went down without a fight. The engine is very smooth with little vibration. It seems to be comfortable for a while (20 minutes or so) but I'm thinking about a sling. The straight shaft puts the cutter head right where you need it. It started right up with a a few pumps of the primer bulb and then restarted on an easy half pull of the starter rope. There was a little assembly required (mounting the cutter and the handle) but Tanaka even included the tools to put it together.

Overall I couldn't be more pleased and would highly recommend this unit. Plus I found out after I bought it that Tanaka has a $40 rebate through the end of June so it was really a steal!

The trimmer is super light and has plenty of power to knock down tall stuff and the design of the head keeps weeds from from tangling around it I even tried to make it wrap up and it wouldn't the 60" shaft makes a big difference in reach. And the best thing is there are minimal vibrations.

This is a great trimmer for the money. I was very pleased with how easily it starts. Hit the ignition switch, prime it, a few pulls with the choke on, then choke off and it starts right up. his was right out of the box.

When warm, just pull the cord - once. Beautiful.
Power is just fine....took down some saplings and heavy weeds....edged, trimmed along a rock wall...this thing really is all your average homeowner will ever need.
Lightweight and well balanced, it was a joy to use. Can't wait to take on some more weeds.

I had a poulan gas trimmer which I used for about one year or so, it was being difficult to be started, I had to pull some 20 more time before it was started. A few weeks ago, the engine was dead. I searched online for a $200 trimmer and tanaka attracted me. I bought it and tried the thing in the weekend. I am very happy about this trimmer. It's so easy to start, the noice and vibration is also much less than my former poulan(PR100). As said by other people, the $40 rebate is a nice gift from TANAKA. I would recommond this to my friends.

5 out of 5 stars Perfect trimmer for residential/home users   August 10, 2010

The shipping from Amazon was fast. Easy out of the box and put together, filled the fuel mix, primed three time, pulled one in choke position, pulled one in run position. Ha, running quietly, no fume, no smoke, it is loud at full speed but very powerful. It is light and well balance. Hopefully it will last a long time. I will mail in for $40 visa gift card rebate. I will enjoy working on the yard more now.
